Abia State Government confirms 1 case of Monkeypox, takes swift action
Abia State Government has confirmed a case of Monkeypox in the state, prompting immediate action to contain the outbreak.
According to Commissioner for Information, Prince Okey Kanu, the state has recorded one confirmed case, nine negative cases, and three cases still awaiting confirmation.
The government has swiftly established treatment centres, including the Abia State University Teaching Hospital, to manage the outbreak. Special Adviser on Health, Dr. Ngozi Azodo, emphasized the importance of synergy between ministries and the establishment of a steering committee on infectious diseases.
Abia state has also announced plans to upgrade its healthcare infrastructure, with a focus on renovating and retrofitting Primary Healthcare Centres.
This move aims to enhance the state’s response to the outbreak and provide quality healthcare services to its residents.
