Abdullahi Ganduje appointed Chair of FAAN Board as Tinubu makes 42 new appointments
In a series of sweeping appointments aimed at bolstering leadership across federal agencies, President Bola Tinubu has named Abdullahi Ganduje, the national chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), as the board chair of the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN).
The announcement, made through a statement by Bayo Onanuga, the presidential spokesperson, highlights Ganduje’s new role as part of 42 appointments of board chairpersons for various federal organizations. The move underscores the administration’s intent to place experienced political and administrative figures in key positions to drive national development.
Ganduje’s appointment comes as FAAN faces critical challenges in managing and upgrading Nigeria’s airport infrastructure to meet global standards. His tenure is expected to focus on ensuring operational efficiency and implementing policies to enhance the aviation sector’s competitiveness.
In his statement, President Tinubu emphasized that the board chairpersons would hold non-executive positions and are expected to collaborate closely with management without interfering in day-to-day operations. The president also directed that all appointments take immediate effect.
Ganduje, a two-term governor of Kano State and an experienced administrator brings to FAAN a wealth of governance experience. His tenure as Kano State governor was marked by infrastructure projects, policy reforms as well as allegations of corruptions.
As he transitions into his new role, stakeholders in the aviation sector will be keen to see how his leadership impacts the authority responsible for overseeing Nigeria’s airports.
Other notable appointments include Kayode Opeifa as Managing Director of the Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC) and Bolaji Akinyemi, a former Minister of Foreign Affairs, as board chair of the Nigerian Institute of International Affairs. Felix Morka, APC spokesperson, was appointed as board chair of the Federal Medical Centre, Yenagoa.
This latest round of appointments reflects the Tinubu administration’s strategy to position seasoned politicians and professionals in leadership roles across federal agencies, aiming to drive efficiency, innovation, and development across key sectors of the economy.
