24-year-old Nigerian arrested in US after woman’s dead body was found in his bin

Police in the United States have arrested a 24-year-old Nigerian man identified as Alex Jude Akpan after a strangled woman’s body was found in his room.

ABC reports that the unidentified woman’s boy was found last Tuesday in Akpan’s home  in Wellsworth Drive. Akpan’s mother was said to have found the body wrapped in a recycling bin in his room.

Police have charged him to court for tampering with evidence.

The Harris County medical examiner’s office has informed the public to assist in identifying the woman, who has been described as a young black woman, 5’6″ in height, and weighing about 73kg.

She was said to be wearing a striped t-shirt with the words ‘NYC Classic’ and olive green pants labelled as being from “Forever 21” at the time she was found.

Although Akpan was said to have been released on bail, the Harris County District Attorney’s Office has stated that he could be charged with murder.
