18 political parties sign peace accord ahead of Ogun gov election

Ahead of the 16th November governorship election in Ogun state, eighteen political parties have come together, pledging to keep the exercise free and fair.

The aim of the agreement is to ensure that all parties involved promote a peaceful gubernatorial election and accept the results of the upcoming.

General Abdulsalam Abubakar, the chairman of the National Peace Committee, called on candidates and parties to uphold democratic tenets and reject vote trading. He emphasised the importance of maintaining the prevailing peaceful atmosphere in the country.

Looking reduce the unforseen circumstances of election violence that may arise during polls by treacherous elements,The Inspector General of the Nigeria Police Force, Kayode Egbetokun, represented by AIG Sylvester Abiodun was keen to state that 36,000 police officers have been deployed to the state and stationed across the 18 local government areas.

Other security agencies were also charged to assist the police, with the number of security presence on group reaching up to 43,157 personnel.

Ondo State Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa expressed joy at the National Peace Committee’s efforts and pledged to uphold democracy and the peace accord. He expressed hope that the peaceful atmosphere could be sustained during and after the elections, urging other parties to follow suit.
